InfoPoint started in late 1993 as an outgrowth of Don Steiny Software.
Don Steiny Software was a C/UNIX consulting and training organization.
It had developed three widely used software products:
AIM Benchmarks - Suite III, AIM Resource Accounting and
Vuser - Virtual User Modeling Language. In addition Don Steiny Software
had an emphasis on communication. It had developed numerous technical
courses for industry. The Internet seemed like the perfect outgrowth
of this highly creative blend of human communication and technical expertise.
InfoPoint was working on commercial applications for the Internet long
before most businesses had heard of it and was faced with the problem of
gaining experience and a portfolio. The initial direction it took was
to build a community directory. Within a few years, easy to use
HTML editors and inexpensive Web space put simple Web pages in reach of
small businesses who need to do everything themselves. InfoPoint still
maintains its community directories mostly for a few large customers.
InfoPoint still has most of the larger hotels, restaurants and amusement
parks in Santa Cruz as clients. InfoPoint's original customers benefit
greatly from this, because the site attracts 850,000 hits a month.
More
Recently
InfoPoint has been developing Web sites for a variety of businesses.
InfoPoint has created database applications for the National Institute of Health
and Interactive Information Systems, where marketing and communications
people from companies like Oracle, IBM, Microsoft and Sun have successfully
used our interface to create catalogs for trade shows. InfoPoint has worked
with industries ranging from graphic designers to printers to software
companies to universities.
We have learned that a quality Web site is like any other quality business
practice. It requires planning, management,
documentation, testing and long term
support. The experience InfoPoint's founders had had with software
development turned out to be just what was needed for the Web.
Now
InfoPoint is bringing its expertise and experience to help businesses
succeed on the Web. InfoPoint's goal is to build great Web sites. A Web
site becomes great by planning, prototyping, documenting and testing;
as well as the skills of programmers, writers and artists.
Great Web sites are free of errors.
Great Web sites change: they are dynamic and alive.
Most importantly, a great Web site communicates the greatness of
our customer's companies.
